Chaplain Corps

Are you deeply troubled by the departure from Biblical authority in the ELCA and the ELCIC?

Do you have difficult questions about God and the Church that you need to talk about?

Are you struggling with a decision to leave your congregation?

photo of keyboard spelling HELPThe WordAlone Ministries Chaplain Corps is designed to help you with these problems. The Corps is an organized ministry of active and retired pastors from around the United States and Canada. Corps pastors affirm the tenants of the Common Confession, have considerable experience, and are willing to share wisdom in a wide variety of church-related affairs. Great turmoil has arisen for many individuals and congregations following the ELCA Churchwide Assembly decisions about ministry practice in August 2009. In many cases Biblical and Confessional Lutheran pastoral assistance and counsel is required. Corps pastors are able to provide ready, short-term assistance for needs in their region.

During this time of crisis, many people just need someone knowledgeable and caring to talk to. Pastoral care can extend from corps pastors to individuals or groups. Many lay people are finding that their Biblical and theological training is insufficient to deal with the issues that they are facing. Corps pastors can engage in teaching to help fill the information gap that is crippling decision making for so many caught in today’s spiritual chaos. Congregations in turmoil are often facing serious problems with funding, call processes, or relationships with the larger Church and may find counsel with corps pastors useful and vital for determining faithful paths.

Chaplain Corps' director with questions or, if you wish, to volunteer, or contact the WordAlone Office, (651) 633-6004.

Some chaplains may also be available to travel. They can help with supply preaching, pastoral acts, interim work, public speaking, Biblical teaching, etc. You can count on WordAlone Chaplains to do what they can to help individuals, groups, and congregations in their great time of need.

The WordAlone Chaplain Corps is organized as self serve. A person desiring assistance selects the name and contact information for the service they want in the Chaplain Corps website and make the contact directly to the pastor. The arrangement for help is left completely up to the requestor and the chaplain. We would, however, request that those seeking service be willing to cover costs if they are asking the chaplain to travel.

The Chaplain Corps is a voluntary organization where pastors carry out their work independently with only a brief report for each contact given back to the organization. A Corps director helps to recruit pastors, communicate developments, coordinate some referrals, and receive reports. We are actively recruiting pastors to join the Chaplain Corps. We are accepting volunteers now and are especially hoping that pastors joining LCMC, CALC, and NALC will step up to help us.

To ask questions, seek help in referrals, or to join the Chaplain Corps contact our director, Mike Hanson:
